Fancy Pharmaceuticals?

I've got a roomie who appears like a grown woman but has capabilities of a three year old (off and on.)

The last few weeks, I was lured-in to help with her meds sorting.

1. Pulled the container out of the cabinet (plastic container with snap lid or if that becomes problematic to open - use a open, handled basket.) OR one on wheels! Whee!!

2. Grab large-sized pill container (labeled Sunday thru Saturday.) Best to get a BIG one initially, or you may have to upgrade when more pills are added.

3. Check if any pills have specific directions (ie nighttime, take with meals, 8 oz glass of water, etc. ) Separate those out first. Open all lids on one side (for example am's)

4. Place number of pills per week in shallow bowl.

5. Have client put them in the palm of their hand, count them OUT LOUD as they move down the days of the week. If they miss one, you will know where to direct their hand, to continue the count. Pay attention to their progress.

6. Close am lids.

7. Open pm lids and repeat pattern until all pills are distributed.

8. Congratulate them on a job well done!

9. Take note of what meds are running low and need another script.

10. Put container back in cabinet. Meds where they can be seen and preferably near a calendar!

** Are you having your loved one mark off days of the week so they know what day it is?

Hope this is helpful!!
