Voluntary Simplicity Vocabulary

I love working with people when I can stick that blessed thing called Hope in the mix, from the beginning, in the middle of our time together, and disctinctly at the end of the day.

People are effected the most when I connect their wondrous stuff with someone’s engaging story.

I give you permission to choose where your stuff goes -

  • The DUMPSTER (ugh, there's really no "AWAY.")

  • To an End User who has to pay for it (whom you will never know about.)

  • In the hands of someone who will adore wearing, using, absorbing it with love (and of course, I'll share the stories I find out about.)

For example:

I recently brought a doll into the My Place Teen Center. The 12" antique, pristine in her box, might very well have been rejected by the Director, if I hadn't noticed the little girl (of about 10?) slipping behind me to gaze longingly at the doll. Of course you HAVE to take it! (And I have a LOT more dolls to give away from a client this week!)

A young guy, on the street corner, standing in a flannel shirt on a misty day, leaned into the car when I asked if he wanted a jacket. It was a new black zip-up job. He shrugged it on and the XXL fit like it was meant for him. I drove away to his grin in my rearview mirror.

The Hospice ladies were, mouths agape, in wonder at the handmade crochet'd lap blankets I brought in. Bright colors, soft and gorgeously new. "I have three to give away, I murmured, do you want them?" Although I couldn't promise more of the same in the future, I'll keep my eye out.

Clip-on earrings, that everyone else turned away, 'cause "They don't sell." I brought to the Nursing Home. They use the gems for dress-up down memory lane with the Alzheimers and Dementia patients. I also had some hand-written letters to grandpa's fiance from 1910. They gobbled them up like peppermint candy.

A bag of old towels and well-worn blankets were dropped at the pet shelter. One teary-eyed lady at the door, who'd just lost her lovely aged dog said "Oh, I hadn't thought of bringing in anything for a donation. I'll have to go thru Cranberry's things this weekend!"

Doesn't it feel GOOD to contribute?

Call Sorted Affairs, and I can help you feel sssooooo very good!
