The Power of Collective Action

Is there such a thing as responsibly-produced clothes?

You bet? (See "True Cost" movie on Netflix)

What about skincare, cleaning, food, anything in a box, bag, can, package...sure, sure, and of course!! (The Food Babe, Organic Consumers Association, Seventh Generation are a few great online resources.)

So, when you go about finding a service business to help you with a problem area in your life (like Downsizing!!) what do you need to know about them to help you decide, if these things were equal:

Someone you trust recommended them to you

Their reputation in the industry is stellar

They're fees are within your budget

(may not be an issue, if you're excited about their business practices)

They offer great testimonials

Are they altruistic?

(the majority of consumers prefer to use companies that give back)

The service may in fact provide ongoing follow-up. They may have email reminders. They could send automatic texts to jog your memory about an upcoming appointment. They could set you up with a Facebook Support Group to get ongoing and consistent focus and attention on your goals. They could have online courses for the DIYers. A generous plus is the opportunity to help others, which always leads to feeling fabulous. You always feel heard, taken care of, and accepted.

Putting your money where your heart feels connected can make the difference. It can also create a long-standing relationship with a business owner and staff. No matter how big your city-the community you live in, work in, play in, and feel supported by, is small.

Great connections begin with skin in the game. (tweetable!)

Support a local business, take the time to find out WHY they are doing what they're doing and if you believe in THAT, buy from THEM.

This is Paula Hill, founder of Sorted Affairs, and I approve this message.
