Whether you're selling stuff online, creating a receipt for donations, or handing down goods to the children and wanting it to be fair, this blog post is for you!
You don't have to be Miss Marple, Columbo, Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown, or Sherlock Holmes to figure out how to value your items.
Five EASY tricks:
1. Google it
2. Find like-sales on eBAY
3. Head to the nearest Thrift or Consignment store
4. Purchase price divided in half
5. Make it up
You're essentially looking to see what people are willing to pay for a similar item. Unless you have a buyer, who's paying what you're asking, it is a guessing game. Things may be listed for far more than you thought, sending you into illusions of a Hawaii vacation.
And you shouldn't take it SO seriously.
You'll always find the same thing for a much higher price and one for a lot less than what you thought.
The key is, especially when selling the item, is to present it in the very best light. The description needs to entice the buyer, make them feel fantastic when they give you their credit card number.
The best tip is to start a bit higher than what you want. Most people LOVE a bargain and are happier when they feel like you gave 'em a break or threw something in as a gift, not to mention when you accept a lower price.
Let me know how you fared in the comments below. I'd love to get your tip (especially if you think it's better than mine!)
